Language Continua.pdf
This Graphic is used in Unit Four of the text.  It can also be obtained through the PowerPoint presentation.  It provides a more comprehensive understanding of what has been called the ASL-English continuum.  The main point to this revision is that there are two different languages and each has its own modality (spoken versus signed) so it is not logical to try to represent such different things on only one line.  This model provides two converging lines in a representation of the continua between signed ASL, ASL elements presented simultaneously with English elements, and English.  Take a look (a more detailed version is provided in the Interpreting Handbook, Part 1).  This drawing may be freely used and distributed as long as Hand & Mind Publishing is credited.
